Ex-Mexico coach Javier Aguirre to manage UAE club

Aguirre, who has managed the Mexico national team and several clubs in Spain and Japan, will take over at Al Wahda

Al Wahda Football Club in the United Arab Emirates has appointed former Mexico national team coach Javier Aguirre as its new manager.

Aguirre, 64, has signed a two-year contract with the Abu Dhabi club.

Aguirre has a wealth of experience in management, having coached the Mexico national team from 2001 to 2002 and again from 2009 to 2010.

He has also managed several clubs in Spain, including Atletico Madrid, Real Zaragoza and Osasuna.

Aguirre's most recent coaching role was with Japanese club Monterrey, which he left in 2021.

Al Wahda is one of the most successful clubs in the UAE, having won the league title four times and the President's Cup five times.

The club is currently fourth in the league standings, and Aguirre will be tasked with leading them to a higher finish.

Aguirre is a popular figure in Mexico, and his appointment as Al Wahda manager is likely to be well-received by fans.
