Sweden tops Slovenia 2-1, advances to Nations League final four
Substitute Viktor Gyokeres bundled home the winner
Sweden substitute Viktor Gyokeres bundled home the winning goal in stoppage time as the visitors beat Slovenia 2-1 in Ljubljana on Saturday to win Group B4 of the Nations League and reach the final four.
The Swedes were heading for a draw which would have been enough for top spot after Emil Forsberg had cancelled out Benjamin Sesko's opener for Slovenia.
Dutch also advance to the knockout rounds
The Netherlands also reached the knockout rounds of the Nations League despite losing 1-0 in Belgium.
Michy Batshuayi scored the only goal of the game in the 93rd minute as Belgium secured top spot in Group A4.
The Dutch finished second and will join Sweden, Italy and Croatia in the final four, which will take place in June 2023.
Gyokeres had very little time on the pitch
Gyokeres, who had been on the pitch for less than a minute, had his first touch of the ball end up in the back of the net to give Sweden all three points. He was assisted by Dejan Kulusevski, who was making his first international start.
It is the first time since 1994 that Sweden have reached a major tournament semi-final.
Sesko continues to impress for Slovenia
Slovenia forward Benjamin Sesko continues to impress for his country. The 19-year-old scored his sixth goal in seven international appearances to give Slovenia the lead.
But Sweden were level just seven minutes later when Forsberg converted a penalty after he was fouled by Petar Stojanovic.
Slovenia pressed for a winner in the second half but Sweden held on and Gyokeres' late goal secured a famous victory.
