Shelburne House Fire Causes Delays on US 7
Vermont State Police are investigating the cause of a house fire on US Route 7 in Shelburne that caused delays on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
The fire was reported at around 11:45 a.m. and quickly spread through the two-story home. Firefighters from Shelburne, Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski responded to the scene and were able to bring the fire under control by 1:30 p.m.
There were no injuries reported, but the home is considered a total loss. The Vermont State Police are investigating the cause of the fire, but do not believe it to be suspicious at this time.
The fire caused significant delays on US Route 7, as the road was closed between Exit 12 and Exit 13 for several hours. Traffic was diverted to Shelburne Road during the closure.
The Vermont Agency of Transportation is advising motorists to avoid the area if possible and to seek alternate routes. The road has since reopened, but residual delays are expected.
The Shelburne Fire Department is reminding residents to check their smoke detectors and make sure they have a fire escape plan in place.
