Report: Bruins Fire Head Coach
The Boston Bruins have fired head coach Bruce Cassidy
The Boston Bruins have fired head coach Bruce Cassidy, the team announced Monday. Cassidy had been with the Bruins since 2016 and led the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. However, the Bruins have struggled in recent seasons, missing the playoffs in 2020 and 2022.
Cassidy's tenure with the Bruins
Cassidy was hired by the Bruins in 2016 after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals. He led the Bruins to a 245-108-46 record in the regular season and a 40-31 record in the playoffs.
The Bruins reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2019, but lost to the St. Louis Blues in seven games. They also made the playoffs in 2017, 2018, and 2021, but were eliminated in the second round each time.
The Bruins missed the playoffs in 2020 and 2022. They finished seventh in the East Division in 2020 and eighth in the East Division in 2022.
