Rain Washes Out Last ODI Between Series Winner Sri Lanka and New Zealand

Sri Lanka won the three-match ODI series 2-0

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Heavy rain washed out the third and final one-day international between Sri Lanka and New Zealand on Tuesday, giving the hosts a 2-0 series victory.

No play was possible at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium after persistent rain throughout the morning.

Sri Lanka won the first ODI by 10 wickets and the second by 21 runs.

Sri Lanka in commanding position

Sri Lanka were in a commanding position to win the series after winning the first two matches convincingly.

In the first ODI, Sri Lanka chased down New Zealand's total of 219 with ease, with openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis scoring unbeaten centuries.

In the second ODI, Sri Lanka bowlers restricted New Zealand to 266-9, with Wanindu Hasaranga taking 4-58.

New Zealand struggle in Sri Lanka

New Zealand struggled to adapt to the conditions in Sri Lanka, losing both ODIs by big margins.

The tourists were without several key players, including captain Kane Williamson, who missed the series due to injury.

New Zealand will now travel to India for a three-match ODI series, starting on January 18.

Sri Lanka move up in rankings

The series win sees Sri Lanka move up to seventh in the ICC ODI rankings, while New Zealand remain in ninth place.

Sri Lanka will next face India in a three-match ODI series, starting on January 10.
