Rafael Nadal On Roger Federer Davis Cup Absence: 'He's Done So Much for the Competition'
Rafael Nadal has praised Roger Federer for his commitment to the Davis Cup, saying the Swiss star's absence from this year's competition will be a "big loss."
Federer, who has won the Davis Cup three times with Switzerland, announced last month that he would not be playing in this year's tournament due to a busy schedule. Nadal, who has won the Davis Cup five times with Spain, said he understands Federer's decision but is disappointed that he will not be competing.
"Roger is a great champion and he has done so much for the Davis Cup," Nadal said. "He is always a tough opponent and it is always a pleasure to play against him. I am sure he will be missed by all of the players and fans."
Nadal said he is still hopeful that Federer will return to the Davis Cup in the future. "I know he is still very passionate about the competition and I am sure he will want to win it again before he retires," Nadal said.
Federer's absence from the Davis Cup is a blow to the competition, but Nadal is confident that Spain can still win the title. "We have a strong team and we are all very motivated," Nadal said. "We know it will be a tough challenge, but we are ready for it."
Spain is the defending champion of the Davis Cup, having beaten Canada in the final last year. Nadal is expected to lead Spain's team again this year, and he is confident that they can win the title again.
