Atlanta Braves Star Ozzie Albies Undergoes Successful Surgery

Atlanta Braves second baseman Ozzie Albies underwent successful surgery on his broken foot Thursday, the team announced.

Albies suffered the injury in the fourth inning of Wednesday's game against the Miami Marlins. He was initially diagnosed with a fracture of the navicular bone in his right foot.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Robert Anderson at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. The Braves said Albies' surgery went "as expected" and that he is expected to make a full recovery.

Albies is expected to miss the remainder of the 2023 season. He is batting .265 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs in 76 games this season.

The Braves are currently in first place in the National League East with a record of 60-42. They are 3.5 games ahead of the second-place New York Mets.

The Braves are hoping to make a deep run in the playoffs this season. Albies is a key part of their team, and his absence will be a major blow.

The Braves are expected to call up shortstop Vaughn Grissom from Triple-A Gwinnett to take Albies' place on the roster. Grissom is batting .312 with 12 home runs and 53 RBIs in 80 games at Triple-A this season.
