NYPD Officer Shot, Suspect Dead

On Monday, August 14, 2023, an NYPD officer was shot in the leg during a robbery in the Bronx, and the suspect was killed by another officer, according to the NYPD.

The incident occurred at around 11:45 p.m. at a deli on East 180th Street near Belmont Avenue in the Belmont neighborhood.

According to the NYPD, two officers responded to a 911 call about a robbery in progress. When they arrived, they encountered two suspects inside the deli.

Suspect Fatally Shot

One of the suspects was armed with a gun, the NYPD said. The officers ordered the suspect to drop the gun, but he refused. One of the officers then fired, striking the suspect in the chest.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officer Injured in Leg

The other suspect was taken into custody without incident.

The injured officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.

Investigation Ongoing

The NYPD is investigating the incident.

The identity of the deceased suspect has not been released.
