On March 6, 1836, the Alamo was attacked by a Mexican army led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna. Crockett and his fellow defenders fought bravely, but were eventually overwhelmed and killed. Crockett was married three times and had several children. His first wife, Elizabeth Patton, died in 1815. He later married Polly Finley and Sarah Childress, who both survived him.
