Mitchell Marsh Heaps Praise On Ashwin, Jadeja
World-class Spin Duo Pose Challenges For Australian Batters
Indian Off-spinners Impress Aussie All-rounder
Mitchell Marsh has lauded the Indian spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, calling them "world-class bowlers" after their impressive performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Ashwin and Jadeja have been instrumental in India's dominance in the series, bamboozling the Australian batters with their guile and accuracy. Marsh, who has faced the duo in both innings of the first Test in Nagpur, acknowledged the challenges they pose.
"They're both world-class bowlers, there's no doubt about that," Marsh said. "They're very experienced, they know their craft inside out, and they know how to use the conditions to their advantage."
Ashwin, in particular, has been a thorn in Australia's side, dismissing David Warner, Usman Khawaja, and Marnus Labuschagne in the first innings. His variations in pace and trajectory have troubled the Australian batters, who have failed to decipher his spin.
Jadeja, on the other hand, has been equally effective, providing crucial breakthroughs and containing the Australian run-rate. His left-arm spin has troubled the right-handed Australian batters, who have struggled to pick his line and length.
Marsh believes that the key to countering Ashwin and Jadeja is to play with patience and discipline. "You've got to be really patient and disciplined against them," he said. "You can't just go out there and try to hit them out of the park. You've got to be smart about it and try to build partnerships."
Australia will face Ashwin and Jadeja again in the second Test in Delhi, which begins on February 17. The Aussies will need to find a way to combat the spin duo if they want to level the series.
