Max Christie Believes He Benefited From Being Out Of Lakers Rotation
Christie Seized Opportunity in G League
Max Christie didn't play much for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2022-23 season, but he believes that time away from the NBA helped him improve his game.
Christie spent much of the season playing in the G League with the South Bay Lakers, averaging 19.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He showed impressive shooting ability, connecting on 42.7% of his three-pointers, and also showcased his defensive versatility.
"I think it was really beneficial for me," Christie said of his time in the G League. "I got a chance to play a lot of minutes, get a lot of shots up, and just get comfortable playing at a high level."
Christie Has Clear Role With Lakers Now
Christie's strong play in the G League earned him a more prominent role with the Lakers towards the end of the season. He started 10 of the Lakers' final 15 games and averaged 9.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Christie's increased playing time was due in part to injuries to other Lakers players, but he also impressed the coaching staff with his improved play.
"Max has really taken advantage of his opportunities," Lakers coach Darvin Ham said. "He's a hard worker, he's a smart player, and he's got a bright future."
Christie Excited For Next Season
Christie is now looking forward to the 2023-24 season, when he hopes to play a even bigger role for the Lakers.
"I'm just going to keep working hard and try to improve my game," Christie said. "I'm excited for next season."
The Lakers are hoping that Christie can continue to develop and become a key contributor for them in the years to come. He has the potential to be a valuable piece for the Lakers, both on the offensive and defensive end of the floor.
