Lynne Roberts Named Head Coach of Los Angeles Sparks

Former Utah Head Coach to Lead WNBA Franchise into New Era

Roberts Brings Proven Success and Championship Pedigree to Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Sparks have appointed Lynne Roberts as their new head coach, the team announced today. Roberts, who most recently served as the head coach at the University of Utah, brings a wealth of experience and success to the WNBA franchise.

During her tenure at Utah, Roberts led the Utes to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet 16 berth in 2018. She also mentored several All-Americans, including current Sparks star Chiney Ogwumike.

Roberts' hiring marks a new era for the Sparks, who are looking to rebound from a disappointing 2022 season. The team finished with a 13-21 record and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2011.

Sparks General Manager Karen Bryant said Roberts' proven track record and championship pedigree made her the ideal candidate for the job.

"Lynne is a winner, both on and off the court," Bryant said. "She has a deep understanding of the game and a proven ability to develop players. We are confident that she can lead the Sparks back to contention."

Roberts is excited to join the Sparks and begin the next chapter of her coaching career.

"I am honored and humbled to be the head coach of the Los Angeles Sparks," Roberts said. "This is a storied franchise with a rich tradition, and I am eager to build on that legacy."

Roberts will be formally introduced at a press conference on Thursday, January 12.
