Löw reveals how he persuaded Musiala to play for Germany instead of England
Joachim Löw has revealed how he persuaded Jamal Musiala to play for Germany instead of England.
The Bayern Munich midfielder was born in Stuttgart to a German mother and an English father, and was eligible to represent either country.
In an interview with Bild, Löw said that he first met Musiala when he was 16 years old, and was immediately impressed by his talent.
"I saw him play for Bayern Munich's youth team, and I was very impressed," Löw said.
"He was a very skilful player, with great vision and passing ability.
"I knew that he was eligible to play for either Germany or England, and I wanted to make sure that he chose Germany.
"I spoke to him and his parents, and I told them about my plans for the German national team.
"I told them that I believed that Jamal had the potential to be a key player for Germany, and that I would give him the opportunity to develop his talent."
Musiala eventually decided to play for Germany, and made his debut for the national team in March 2021.
He has since become a regular member of the squad, and is expected to play a key role in the 2022 World Cup.
Löw said that he is delighted to have Musiala in the German national team.
"Jamal is a very talented player, and I am very happy that he has chosen to play for Germany," Löw said.
"He is a great asset to our team, and I am confident that he will have a successful career with us."
