Karlo Matković Recalled to New Orleans Pelicans After Stint with Birmingham Squadron

Birmingham, AL

After a successful stint with the Birmingham Squadron, the New Orleans Pelicans have recalled center Karlo Matković to the NBA roster.

Matković, 22, averaged 15.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks in 18 games with the Squadron. He shot 52.9% from the field and 34.2% from three-point range.

The 6'11", 240-pound center was originally assigned to the Squadron on January 17th. He made his NBA debut with the Pelicans on January 10th, scoring two points in four minutes of action.

Matković's Return to the Pelicans

Matković's recall to the Pelicans comes at a time when the team is dealing with several injuries. Center Jonas Valančiūnas is out with a foot injury, while forward Brandon Ingram is dealing with a toe injury.

Matković is expected to provide depth to the Pelicans' frontcourt. He is a skilled rebounder and defender, and he can also score in the post.

The Pelicans are currently 27-31, which is good for 10th place in the Western Conference. They are 3.5 games behind the eighth-place Los Angeles Clippers for the final play-in spot.
