Jerome Tang Likes How Kansas State Responded After Loss
The Transition
Jerome Tang has seen a lot of good things from his Kansas State basketball team since taking over as head coach this past spring. The Wildcats are 10-3 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play, and they've shown some real flashes of potential. But Tang knows that there's still room for improvement, and he's been pushing his team to get better every day.A Test from the Tigers
Kansas State was tested early in the season when they traveled to Baton Rouge to take on LSU. The Tigers are one of the top teams in the country, and they gave the Wildcats all they could handle. In the end, LSU won by a score of 74-71, but Tang was pleased with the way his team competed.Learning from Mistakes
"I thought we played really hard," Tang said. "We made some mistakes, but we learned from them. We're going to get better from this experience." One of the things that Tang liked most about his team's performance was their effort on the defensive end. The Wildcats held LSU to just 38.2% shooting from the field, and they forced 15 turnovers. "Our defense was really good," Tang said. "We were able to force them into some tough shots, and we did a good job of rebounding the basketball." On the offensive end, the Wildcats were led by Keyontae Johnson, who scored 20 points. Johnson was efficient from the field, shooting 8-of-13, and he also grabbed 10 rebounds. "Keyontae played a great game," Tang said. "He was aggressive on the offensive end, and he did a good job of rebounding the basketball."Looking Ahead
Kansas State will be back in action on Saturday when they host West Virginia. The Mountaineers are 10-3 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play, so this will be another tough test for the Wildcats. "We're looking forward to the challenge," Tang said. "We know that West Virginia is a good team, but we're confident that we can compete with them."
