Japan close to securing World Cup finals spot

Japan are on the cusp of securing a place at the 2023 World Cup after battling to a 1-1 draw with Palestine in Group B of the Asian qualifiers on Thursday.

Hajime Moriyasu's side came into the match top of the table and needing just one point to guarantee qualification with two games left.

They took the lead in the 8th minute through Werder Bremen forward Yuya Osako, but Palestine hit back with a stunning equalizer from Omar Aldarwich just before the hour.
