Israel strikes Lebanon in response to rocket fire
Israel carried out airstrikes on targets in Lebanon early Thursday, the Israeli military said, in response to rocket fire from Lebanon.
The airstrikes targeted "terrorist infrastructure" in southern Lebanon, the military said, adding that the strikes were "precise and caused no casualties."
The rocket fire from Lebanon came from the area of the village of Qlaileh, near the southern Lebanese city of Tyre. The rockets were fired into northern Israel, and caused no damage or injuries.
The Israeli military said that the airstrikes were in response to the rocket fire, and that the strikes were "a clear message" to Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed militant group that controls southern Lebanon.
"We will not tolerate any attempt to harm our citizens or our sovereignty," the military said in a statement.
Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for the rocket fire, but the group has a history of firing rockets into Israel from southern Lebanon.
The airstrikes are the first by Israel on Lebanon since 2019, when the Israeli military carried out airstrikes on targets in southern Lebanon in response to rocket fire from Lebanon.
The airstrikes come at a time of heightened tensions between Israel and Lebanon, as the two countries continue to dispute the demarcation of their maritime border.
