Hezbollah Media Head Killed in Israeli Strike on Beirut, Security Sources Say
Security sources say an Israeli airstrike has killed the head of Hezbollah's media relations department in Beirut.
Wafic Safa was killed in a missile attack on a building used by the powerful Lebanese Shiite group in southern Beirut on Sunday, the sources told AFP.
The Israeli military has not commented on the attack, which comes amid heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
Safa was a senior figure in Hezbollah, responsible for the group's media relations and public relations activities.
He was also a close associate of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
The Israeli military has carried out a number of airstrikes in Lebanon in recent months, targeting Hezbollah positions and weapons caches.
Hezbollah has retaliated by firing rockets into northern Israel.
The latest airstrike comes just days after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened to retaliate against Israel for any attacks on Lebanon.
The Israeli military has said it is prepared to respond to any threats from Hezbollah.
The heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have raised concerns about a wider conflict in the region.
