Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Goes back to locker room
Latest News
Memphis Grizzlies center Zach Edey left the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night with a right knee injury and did not return.
What Happened?
Edey, who has been one of the most promising young players in the NBA this season, was injured in the third quarter when he collided with Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen. Edey immediately grabbed his knee and went to the ground in pain.
Edey was helped off the court by trainers and went to the locker room for further evaluation. The Grizzlies announced that he would not return to the game.
Injury Severity
The severity of Edey's injury is not yet known. The Grizzlies said that he will undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the extent of the damage.
If Edey's injury is serious, it would be a major blow to the Grizzlies, who are currently in the midst of a playoff push. Edey is averaging 15.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season.
Grizzlies' Outlook
If Edey is out for an extended period of time, the Grizzlies will need to find a way to replace his production. Steven Adams, who has been starting alongside Edey, will likely see an increase in his minutes.
The Grizzlies could also look to make a trade to acquire another center. However, with the trade deadline approaching, it may be difficult to find a suitable replacement.
