Davie Named Transgender Visibility Advocate
B.C. Government Announces New Role for Davie, Activist, and Author
Vancouver, B.C. - January 26, 2023
The Province of British Columbia has appointed high-profile transgender activist, speaker, and author Morgane Oger as its new Transgender Visibility Advocate.
In this role, Davie will work with the government to develop and implement policies and programs that promote the visibility and inclusion of transgender people in British Columbia.
Davie is a well-known advocate for transgender rights. She is the founder of the Transgender Education and Advocacy Association of Canada.
She has also written two books about her experiences as a transgender person.
Davie's appointment is being hailed by transgender advocates as a positive step towards greater visibility and inclusion for transgender people in British Columbia.
"This is a historic day for transgender people in British Columbia," said Davie. "I am honored to be appointed to this role and I look forward to working with the government to make a difference in the lives of transgender people in this province.
The B.C. government has made a number of commitments to supporting transgender people, including:
- Providing funding for transition-related surgeries
- Changing the birth certificates of transgender people
- Including transgender people in hate crime legislation
The appointment of Davie is a further demonstration of the government's commitment to transgender people.
