'Danke, Jogi': Joachim Löw broke his own rules to secure Jamal Musiala for Germany
Germany coach Joachim Löw has admitted that he broke his own rules to secure the services of Jamal Musiala for the national team.
Musiala, who was born in Stuttgart to a German mother and a Nigerian father, had been eligible to play for either Germany or England, having spent his youth career with both nations.
However, Löw was determined to convince Musiala to commit his international future to Germany, and he did so by breaking his own rule of not calling up players who had not yet played for the Under-21s.
Löw said that he made an exception for Musiala because he is "a special talent" who has the potential to be "a great player for Germany".
Musiala has made an impressive start to his international career, scoring one goal in three appearances for Germany.
He is expected to play a key role for his country at the upcoming European Championship, and he will be hoping to help Germany win their first major trophy since 1996.
