Canada will be without captain Alphonso Davies for their CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal against Suriname on June 14. Davies suffered a hamstring injury in Bayern Munich's 4-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on May 19 and has yet to return to full training.
Davies is a key player for Canada and his absence will be a blow to the team's hopes of winning the tournament. The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in the world and was named the CONCACAF Men's Player of the Year in 2021.
In Davies' absence, Canada will likely turn to Tajon Buchanan or Liam Millar to fill in at left back. Buchanan is a speedy winger who can also play in defence, while Millar is a more traditional full back.
Canada will be hoping to avenge their 1-0 defeat to Suriname in the group stage of the CONCACAF Nations League. The two teams will meet again in the quarterfinals on June 14 in Toronto.
The winner of the Canada-Suriname match will face either Mexico or Costa Rica in the semifinals. The CONCACAF Nations League is a new tournament that was created to replace the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The tournament features the top 16 teams in the CONCACAF region and offers a berth in the FIFA Confederations Cup to the winner.
Canada is ranked 33rd in the FIFA World Rankings, while Suriname is ranked 141st. Canada is the favorite to win the match, but Suriname will be looking to pull off an upset.
