Brayden Point Scores Overtime Winner In Lightning Defeat of Penguins
Lightning Edge Penguins in Overtime Thriller
Brayden Point scored the overtime winner as the Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 on Tuesday night. The Lightning improve to 10-5-1 with the win, while the Penguins fall to 8-6-2.
Point's goal came at 3:45 of overtime, as he took a pass from Nikita Kucherov and beat Penguins goalie Tristan Jerry with a wrist shot. It was Point's sixth goal of the season and his second game-winning goal.
The Lightning took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Steven Stamkos, but the Penguins tied the game in the second period on a goal by Jake Guentzel. The Penguins took a 2-1 lead in the third period on a goal by Bryan Rust, but the Lightning tied the game again with just over two minutes remaining in regulation on a goal by Kucherov.
The Lightning outshot the Penguins 36-29 in the game, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves in goal for the Lightning. Jerry made 33 saves in goal for the Penguins.
Point Continues to Impress
Point has been one of the Lightning's best players this season, and he continued to impress in Tuesday night's game. The 25-year-old center is now tied for the team lead in goals with six, and he also has nine assists. Point is a key part of the Lightning's top line, and he is one of the most dangerous players in the NHL.
The Lightning will be back in action on Thursday night when they host the New York Islanders. The Penguins will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Boston Bruins.
