B&M signs 10-year lease for 670k sq ft distribution centre in Ellesmere Port
B&M has signed a ten-year lease for a 670,000 sq ft distribution centre at the Port of Ellesmere.
The site will become the discounter’s primary ambient food distribution centre in the North of England.
The new, state-of-the-art facility will be built on a 25-acre site between Junctions 6 and 7 of the M53 motorway.
The discount retail chain already has two distribution centres in the North, at Heywood in Greater Manchester and at Worksop in Nottinghamshire, but the new hub will more than double its current capacity in the North.
B&M said the Ellesmere Port facility will be ‘pivotal’ in supporting the retailer’s growth ambitions in the coming years.
Chief operating officer, Mike Schmidt, said: “This new distribution centre will provide us with the capacity and flexibility we need to support our continued growth, both in the UK and internationally.
"We are committed to providing our customers with the best possible value, and this investment will help us to do that.”
B&M’s decision to choose Ellesmere Port is a major boost for the area, and is expected to create hundreds of jobs.
Peel Ports Group property director, Neil Ashcroft, said: “We are delighted that B&M has chosen the Port of Ellesmere for their new distribution centre.
"This is a significant investment for the area and will create a number of new jobs.”
Work on the new facility is expected to start in the coming months, with completion due in 2024.
