Peter Cancro to Step Down as Leader; Take on Executive Chairman Role
Leading Fast-Casual Sandwich Chain to Welcome John Miller, CEO of Crisp & Green, as New CEO
Blackstone-backed Jersey Mike's Subs is preparing for a leadership transition as CEO Peter Cancro steps down to assume the role of Executive Chairman. The fast-casual sandwich chain has appointed John Miller, CEO of Crisp & Green, as its new CEO, effective March 13, 2023.
Cancro, who co-founded Jersey Mike's in 1956 with his father, will remain heavily involved in the company's strategic direction and growth initiatives as Executive Chairman. He expressed confidence in Miller's ability to lead Jersey Mike's into its next phase of growth.
"John is a proven leader with a deep understanding of the restaurant industry and a passion for building high-performing teams," Cancro said in a statement. "I am confident that he will continue to drive Jersey Mike's success and take the company to even greater heights."
Miller has over 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, having held various leadership positions at Arby's, Wendy's, and most recently as CEO of Crisp & Green. He is known for his ability to drive innovation, improve operations, and foster a positive work environment.
"I am thrilled to join the Jersey Mike's team and honored to have the opportunity to lead such an iconic brand," Miller said. "I look forward to working with Peter and the rest of the team to build on the company's legacy of success and continue to provide our guests with the best possible experience."
Jersey Mike's, known for its fresh-sliced meats and cheeses, currently operates over 2,400 locations in 49 states and Puerto Rico. The company has experienced significant growth in recent years, with plans to open hundreds of new restaurants in the coming years.
The transition comes as Jersey Mike's continues to expand its presence both domestically and internationally. The company recently entered into a development agreement to open restaurants in Canada and is exploring opportunities in other countries.
