Andrich after Hungary penalty draw: "Where should his hand go?"
Germany fail to beat Hungary after Szoboszlai penalty
Germany were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw by Hungary in their Nations League clash on Friday, with Dominik Szoboszlai canceling out Jonas Hofmann's opener from the penalty spot.
Hansi Flick's side dominated for large periods of the match but were unable to find a winning goal, with Szoboszlai's late penalty earning Hungary a deserved point.
Andrich on the penalty decision
Speaking after the match, Germany midfielder Emre Can was critical of the penalty decision that led to Hungary's equalizer.
"The penalty was a joke," he said, "He [the referee] should have a look at it again. It's not a penalty. Where should his hand go?"
Flick defends the team
Despite the disappointing result, Flick defended his team's performance.
"I thought we played well," he said. "We created a lot of chances, but we couldn't take them. We need to be more clinical in front of goal."
"Overall, I'm happy with the performance. We're still a young team, and we're learning. We'll take the positives from this game and move on."
Conclusion
Germany's draw with Hungary was a disappointing result, but Flick will be encouraged by his team's performance. The young Germans showed plenty of promise, and they will be looking to build on this performance when they face England in their next Nations League match.
