Airplane Crashes on Shallowford Road Tuesday Evening
Witnesses Report Seeing Plane Go Down in Flames
An airplane crashed on Shallowford Road Tuesday evening, killing all four people on board. The plane, a small, single-engine Cessna 172, went down just before 6 p.m. in the 3900 block of Shallowford Road, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low and erratically before it crashed into a wooded area near the road.
The impact caused the plane to burst into flames, and firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the fire. The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash and will release a preliminary report within the next few days.
The victims of the crash have not yet been identified, but the FAA said they were all adults.
The crash is the second fatal plane crash in the Atlanta area in less than a month. On July 20, a small plane crashed into a house in Marietta, killing the pilot and three passengers.
